EMISSION REDUCTION by a low cost method PEOPLE POWER

  • The power or electricity generation sector is Australia's single largest direct emitter of
greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 35% of Australia's total in 2010
  • Almost all people in Australia utilise electric power
  • The Australian electric power grid is mainly linked - state to state and region to region
  • There are many methods of generating electric power and each method has a different level of carbon production and release to the atmosphere
  • It should not be left to Governments alone to impliment ways to reduce carbon and impose cost hardship upon the people in doing so - knowing that proposed methods have large bureaucratic and operational imposts which will include levies and commissions paid on transfers of carbon trades - and all to be borne by Australian citizens and business - but in the end it is simply every Australian who will pay - mainly through higher power bills, taxes.and higher cost of goods and services
  • To allow the Peoples Choice to operate - the power grid should be linked across Australia
  • Every power user should be given the right to purchase power from the supplier of their choice
  • The grid to be maintained by a single authority separate from the the power generators - somewhat similar to the telephone system
  • The many generators have the right to supply power to the grid.anywhere in Australia
  • A supplier, who may also be a generator, can obtain power from any generator supplying to the grid.
  • The many suppliers have the right to sell power to any user in Australia as does the user have the right to purchase from any supplier
  • The cost of production may determine the cost of power from each generator to supplier
  • Ever power bill from a supplier will have on it the Kw used and the carbon released in the production of that amount of power shown on that bill.
  • Thus every power generator will be required to show the CARBON PER KILOWATT of power generated
  • This figure will be determined by the relivant Government authority and the supplier will show a average CARBON PER KILOWATT figure for their supply on each users account
  • The consumer can make a decision as to the balance between the cost of his power and the amount of carbon he is responsible for.
  • The CARBON PER KILOWATT would be quoted at the same time as the price per kilowatt
  • The CARBON PER KILOWATT can be reduced by a supplier by the introduction of power from a lower CARBON PER KILOWATT source - be it its own generation or the purchace from another generator - either large or small
  • Thus there is incentive for the gererator to reduce its CARBON PER KILOWATT by what ever method thus resulting in action in carbon reduction and better uti;isation of metods such as solar generation (home and large scale) and wind generation and others.
  • The user (consumer) then has as his perogative the ability to buy from which supplier he chooses at what price he is prepared to accept in the full knowledge of his carbon responsibility - Peoples Choice
  • A user may also be a generator
  • The large generators with high CARBON PER KILOWATT have a real incentive to reduce carbon release to the atmosphere
  • The suppliers have incentive to source the lowest CARBON PER KILOWATT power
  • The generators of power from solar ,wind and other methods have access to a national grid and can sell to any supplier in Auatralia and will be sort after by suppliers to effectively reduce the suppliers own CARBON PER KILOWATT levels and thus be more compeditive in the market place
  • The Peoples Choice will cause real percentage carbon reduction in the initial stages If more stringent methods are found to be required in time then that is the time to introduce them.
  • It is important for people be included and have a say from the outset
  • In drought, water use in SE Qld fell almost in half with peer pressure and has risen but remained at a lower level after rains fell than before - no reason that once each Australian is advised of his carbon position (not known now) that a similar result can be achieved -
  • The starting point is the printing on every power bill the average CARBON PER KILOWATT for period under review. - the outcome to many may be startling and would begin the process of reduction as people would be aware of their position
